A Montana rancher is facing off against trespassers on his land. Forrie J. Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a veteran of the rodeo world. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often „forgets” his Montana accent and reverts to his usual Southern California voice. Featured on WatchMojo: Not on Your Radar (2018) 10 Best Summer TV Shows. (Review for the first two seasons only) I didn’t come into this show expecting to like it, but the story, acting, and cinematography are excellent. Basically, it’s Montana Mafia Wars with a giant dose of testosterone (cowboys on horseback with guns while fishing). Costner is a veteran actor as the lead Duttons. The show is at its best when it shows the chessboard moves involving the Duttons and their enemies. The show stalls at the beginning of the second season, but picks up again halfway through. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link as Monica and does a very weak role, the story falls apart awkwardly and the acting is not up to par. I think Cole Houser as Rip is probably the strongest actor (without Costner) and I watched every scene Rip was in. Thomas Rainwater is also great. The history is shocking and the scenery is beautiful. Just like Cormac McCarthy’s „All The Pretty Horses” was a little more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show has a similar style. Highly recommended and I couldn’t wait to see it.
